Mount Ord Overlook
Reapplications and Retake Requests
If you did not meet the passpoint on the EPPP, below is a high level overview of next steps.

Reapplications & Retake Requests

  • ASPPB and the AZ Board are separate entities.
  • The Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards (ASPPB) administers the EPPP.  Certemy is ASPPB's online registration system for the EPPP.
  • The Arizona Board of Psychologist Examiners (Board), like all U.S. state and Canadian province licensing boards, is tasked with assessing an applicant's qualifications to sit for the EPPP. Individuals who wish to take the EPPP under Arizona's jurisdiction must apply to the AZ Board for approval to sit for the EPPP.
  • Once the Board approves an applicant to sit for the EPPP, Board staff uses the Board's account in ASPPB's Certemy system to authorize the approved applicant to register and take the EPPP.
  • DO NOT SUBMIT A RETAKE REQUEST in CERTEMY.  It is NOT part of the process for the Arizona Board's approval to retake the exam. You must complete and submit Arizona's reapplication (or retake request form for supervised temporary license holders) to the Board and it must be approved by the Board before staff can assign a new workflow in Certemy.

To sum up:

  1. Individuals apply to the AZ Board for approval to take the EPPP using the AZ Board's Applicant Portal.
  2. Once approved, after Board staff has authorized the approval in ASPPB's Certemy, the individual is an EPPP candidate and will use ASPPB's online Certemy system to register to take the exam.
  3. If a passing score is not achieved, the individual must reapply to the AZ Board for approval to take the exam again. The process for obtaining approval depends on the type of application that was submitted.
  4. EPPP Only and Exam & Licensure applicants need to follow the instructions in Section A, below, to submit a reapplication.
  5. Supervised Temporary License holders need to follow the instructions in Section B, "EPPP Retake Requests & Supervised Temporary License Holders". If you hold a supervised temporary license, scroll down to Section B for your instructions.

Section A: Reapplications for EPPP Only and Exam & Licensure Applications
  • Once a candidate takes the EPPP, the approval/application cycle concludes, regardless of extensions or the score achieved. As it states in the Board's approval letter, the approval is regarding only the application reviewed at the Board meeting referenced in the letter.  The Board's approval applies only to one attempt to pass the exam. Once a candidate has taken the exam, the approval expires. If a passing score is achieved, next steps depend on the type of application submitted.
  • If a candidate does not achieve a passing score, the candidate must reapply for approval from the AZ Board to sit for the exam again. Use the online reapplication available via the AZ Board's Applicant Portal to submit this request for Board approval.  After clicking "Expand", a list of psychologist applications will present. Scroll down until you see an application title with the word "Reapplication" in it. That's the application you need to submit.
  • The reapplication fee to the Board is $200. Payment of this fee is assessed as the last step in submitting your reapplication. If you see a fee for a total of $350, you are completing the wrong online application.  Do not pay the application fee. Instead, log off by closing the browser and email Board staff at [email protected] for  troubleshooting. The licensing specialist may be able to change the type of application so that the correct fee presents the next time you log in and reopen the application for submission.
  • You must submit a reapplication to the Arizona Board and it must be approved by the Arizona Board before staff can assign a new workflow for the EPPP in ASPPB's system, Certemy.
  • Per administrative rule R4-26-203.03, reapplications are new applications. The Board may base its decision on applicable forms and documents previously submitted including transcripts, supervised experience verifications, etc.  In most instances, reapplications require a new National Practitioner Data Bank (NPDB) self-query.  The NPDB self-query is valid for 6 months from the date it was processed (date listed in the upper right corner of the report).
  • If you have taken the exam three (3) times under any jurisdiction (state or provincial licensing board), you cannot "reapply" for the exam. You must "apply anew" by submitting a new, complete application - EPPP Only or EPPP and Licensure.  Your static documents such as official transcripts and supervised experience verifications will be copied to the new application. The fee to apply anew is $350.

Section B: EPPP Retake Requests & Supervised Temporary License Holders
  • Once a candidate takes the EPPP, the approval/application cycle concludes, regardless of extensions or the score achieved. As it states in the approval letter, the approval is regarding only the application reviewed at the Board meeting referenced in the letter. The Board's approval applies only to one attempt to pass the exam. Once a candidate has taken the exam, the approval expires. If a passing score is achieved, next steps depend on the type of application submitted.
  • Requests to retake the exam are handled differently for supervised temporary license (TL) holders. While the TL application fee is $200, once the supervised temporary license is issued, there are no additional fees to the Arizona Board for a TL holder to request approval to retake the exam.
  • If a TL holder does not achieve a passing score, the TL holder/EPPP candidate will be emailed a copy of Arizona's Retake Request form, which is a one-page form-fillable PDF, along with the Board's official EPPP score letter.
  • To request approval from the Board to retake the exam, the one-page Retake Request form must be completed and submitted to the Board's office. This one-page form is not available on the website.  Once received in the Board's office, the retake request will be placed on the Board's next available agenda for consideration.
  • The Arizona Board will need to approve the retake request before staff can assign a new workflow in ASPPB's system, Certemy.
